===== The Aetherion =====

Before the kingdoms, there was the **Aetherion**: a single heart of pure aether holding every element — fire and tide, storm and stone — in perfect balance. While it held together, the world held together.

===== The Sundering =====

Then it **shattered**. No one agrees how. The Aetherion broke into **Elemental Shards**, and each fell to the world still screaming with its element. Where a shard landed and took root, it raised a power, a people, and a kingdom around itself. The same night that breaking is called the **Sundering** — and it drowned one kingdom and burned another.

The shards remember they were once one thing. They pull toward each other across the world. Gather mastery of enough of them, and a choice waits at the end: **reforge** the Aetherion whole again, or **sunder** it for good so it can never break the world a second time.
